How to remove extra Microsoft Accounts

Problem

  1. Office applications keep logging into the wrong account
  2. Office applications keep asking you to fix
  3. There may be more

Steps

  1. sign out of office apps by clicking the profile in the top right then clicking sign out
  2. remove work or school accounts in windows account settings if possible
  3. remove any Microsoft credentials in the credential manager
  4. deleted the Identity folder from the following path in the registry editor: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common
  5. Once those steps are completed try to sign into office again through Word or Excel
